Violence Against Women in Prison

Presentations by Thieba Bain and Brittany Knapp, Saturday, July 9 at 2:30 PM

Sexual abuse, harassment and violence against women by officers is a crime. The 2003 Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) prohibited officers from having sex with incarcerated women and men. PREA has not prevented sexual violence in prison. This discussion will focus on the history of physical and sexual violence against women in prison.
