Clemency is an act of leniency, compassion and forgiveness. Clemency is a power given to Governors and the President of the United States to lower the punishment of incarcerated individuals. Governors oversee state prisons which hold more than 2 million incarcerated people. The President oversees the Federal system which oversees more than 200,000 thousand people. This discussion will focus on the history of the use clemency, current efforts to push clemency and personal stories.
